MAN
You talk too much.

Napolitano leans back, trying to think. The man maneuvers the boat to shore, scanning the coastline for potential trouble. He hops out and drags the boat onto the sand.

MAN
Come on!

He pulls Napolitano out of the boat and pushes him forward. Napolitano pretends to misstep and falls to the ground. As he gets up, he lunges at the kidnapper, knocking him over, but the guy is strong and quick, and after a brief scuffle, he’s astride Napolitano, pushing his ear down hard in the sand. He grabs a small handgun from his jacket and shoves it into the mayor’s jaw.

MAN
Is this how you want to do it?

Napolitano doesn’t say anything. As the guy gets off him --

MAN
You’re a real piece of work, dude. Get up!

Napolitano rises slowly, brushing away sand. He takes a shot:

NAPOLITANO
Whatever you say, Omar.

The man -- Omar -- stops in his tracks.

OMAR
How’d you know my name?
NAPOLITANO
(bluffing)
I’ve known Rachel a long time. We don’t have a lot of secrets.

The man seems momentarily out of sorts. Then --

OMAR
That’s great. You think you know Rachel? We’ll see about that.

In the b.g., police SIRENS approach.
