Right of Way 35

Napolitano ignores him and approaches the women on the sidewalk.

NAPOLITANO
Mayor Russell Napolitano. How are you doing tonight?

The cop looks at his female partner. They’re both spooked, unsure what to do. The female SHINES a light through the mayor’s window and peers inside. Napolitano, meanwhile, is gathering a small crowd of people coming and going from the coffee shop: an Old Man, a Couple, a Guy with Tattoos.

NAPOLITANO
I like this place, don’t you? They still serve that hazelnut coffee cake? You should try that; it’s awesome.

The two cops confer quietly between themselves and move toward their car.

GUY WITH TATTOOS
What’s going on over there?
NAPOLITANO
Oh, these guys? They’re just doing some work for Patrick Duvane at The Order.
(calling out)
Isn’t that right, Officer Jensen? Prefect Duvane, the perfect prefect.
Jensen looks at him stonily and gets in the car. So does his partner. As they drive off --
NAPOLITANO
Hey, how did you folks get here tonight? Anybody take a bus?

No one says anything.

NAPOLITANO
I didn’t think so.

INT. NAPOLITANO’S LEXUS – MINUTES LATER – NIGHT

Napolitano is going over everything in his head as he drives away. Suddenly, his phone rings. He clicks it on.

NAPOLITANO
Yeah.
