Just terrible news here. The little black Lab was bitten by a snake and didn't survive. We are all devastated.
OK yes, it's the hawk chick again, but he'll fly away soon and then I'll have to find something new to become obsessed with. (And yes -- apologies -- the video is kind of shaky.)
So yeah, it rained yesterday morning, and not just a leaky low-fog drizzle but full-on rainfall, and for a few hours. It's really kind of crazy for this time of year but considering the level of crazy we're already living through right now, in the end it seemed all of a piece.
Anyway, the result was some beautiful colors and beautiful light.
Here's the hawk chick the other day, waiting for a food delivery from his parents. He's getting his feathers and has already perfected the don't-mess-with-me thousand yard stare.
In the two months since the parks and trails shut down to human traffic, the paths in Bluffs Park all but disappeared.
Here's a mama hawk on guard near her nest. Such a voice.
(Just fyi the LAO website has become a bit slow and videos take a while to load.)
