Perhaps the only upside to the Santana winds that roared through here this week was the Tiny Labrador's ears, held aloft.
It hit 102 in central Malibu yesterday, where Malibu Canyon acts like a giant bellows and funnels hot desert air down to the coast.
It's 80 degrees at 8 am, the air still, birds stilled, still more heat to come, so as antidote, some cool blues, plus a prickly pear as reminder of the true nature of the landscape here.
Weird enough that it's 93 degrees at sunset here at the coast, weirder still that 10 minutes later it's 95.
Considering the space-time helix as we wish Archer a happy 11th (tempus fugit) birthday tomorrow.

And the lovely setting made all that has happened since even more solemn and poignant and sad.
About a month ago, prep began for Pepperdine's annual flag display to mark the 9/11 attacks. No parking tomorrow during the opening ceremonies.
I remember this storm which moved so fast there was barely time to relish the rain and light and mood of it.
