Spotted this Peninsular bighorn sheep in the scrambling company of at least two others this morning at 7:30. He/she (difficult to determine gender at distance) was bounding along the ridge line above Dead Indian Canyon just south of the Art Smith Trail in Palm Desert. These craggy hills are dotted with barrel cacti, some of which are split open, possibly the result of engagement with the sheeps' horns -- bighorns split them to consume the watery interior.
