I had a chance to go to a free community concert at the beautiful Doheny Mansion today, courtesy of the Da Camera Society, whose mission is to promote and enhance chamber music. "This is the perfect setting to play this music," said Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, Da Camera's artist in residence. "This is where Da Camera Society played its first concert 40 years ago."
Wu created Project Amadeus, a classical education program to train young musicians in the skills needed to perform chamber music in these intimate spaces, often with little time to prepare. "We don't discuss much," she said. "We let the music do the talking."
There will be one more free concert on April 5, and more to come over the next year with young musicians coming to LA from across the country. For more information, check www.dacamera.org.
