Why would DirecTV want to keep company with Neil LaBute?

When the folks at Netflix decided to invest in original programming, they wisely went for an idea that would create buzz and generate a large viewership. The result, "House of Cards," is a real treat: Suspenseful, intriguing, sexy - and the beauty part is that you could watch the series all at once or in small doses. Well, DirecTV is into the original programming game as well - except that it's going with a series created by director Neil LaBute, whose film resume ("In the Company of Men," "The Shape of Things," "reasons to be pretty") represents everything that "House of Cards" isn't. His DirecTV effort will be called "Full Circle," which the El Segundo-based satellite service describes as examining "the human condition and relationships through a series of conversations between 11 people whose lives, unbeknownst to them, are intertwined." LaBute says that he's "always interested in pushing the boundaries of entertainment," and that the series would feature "an unconventional structure and a revolving cast of characters." DirecTV likens "Full Circle" to "My Dinner With André" and the play "La Ronde." All right, so call me nutty, but I've always been a little suspicious when "the human condition," "pushing boundaries," "unconventional structure," and references to "My Dinner With André" all wind up in the same press release. Guess I'm just funny that way. Is this what we have to look forward to?
