Will the Grammys ever air live on the West Coast?

grammy.jpgDoubtful, at least according to CBS executives questioned last month about the tape delay. The Academy Awards, of course, have been broadcast live on the West Coast - and in recent years the Emmys and Golden Globes as well. But CBS clearly couldn't care less about hurt feelings in the Pacific time zone. The network considers the Grammys to be as much of an entertainment show as an event-like awards show, and it figures entertainment is best run in prime time. Even the prospect of knowing the winners in advance, through social media and news websites, is not considered a big deal. In fact, the three-hour difference can promote interest on the West Coast rather than stifle it. Well, that's what the network says. NBC rebroadcasts the Globes for West Coast audiences, which seems like a decent idea. By airing the show at 5, KCBS would only be missing a block of local and national weekend news, which doesn't seem like a huge loss.
