Reuters reports that Peter Liguori, a former executive at Fox and more recently the Oprah Winfrey Network, is in serious talks for the top job at the media giant - once the company emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Other names have been mentioned over the months, but the Reuters story described Tribune and Ligouri in "late-stage discussions." He would replace LAT head Eddy Hartenstein, who has overseen Tribune Co. for more than a year. Frankly, the most interesting question isn't who the new CEO will be, but what a post-bankruptcy Tribune will look like. Specifically, when and how the company, now in the hands of three large creditors, will sell off at least some of its assets.
