Sacramento Bee erects paywall

sactobee.jpgStarting today, the paper will only offer free access to its home page and section fronts - as well as 15 pages per 30 days. After that you'll have to pay up. Monthly digital access is $6.95, or $69.95 a year. Current print subscribers can get complete digital access for $19.95 a year. The Bee's parent, McClatchy Co., is among the last newspaper chains to implement a paywall service. One of its dailies, the Modesto Bee, began digital subscriptions about a year ago. This is sort of a big deal for anyone who follows the state legislature - the paper has a large capitol presence. Here's the information. By the way, about a fifth of the nation's newspapers have some sort of paywall, double the number from a year ago.
