Now that the two big carriers have finally integrated their operations into a single route network, we should expect adjusted schedules and flight destinations. United has added or is planning to add seven destinations out of LAX, including Shanghai, Hilo, and Austin. From the WSJ:
Superior route structures improve carriers' chances of winning connecting passengers who could have made the transfer in another airline's hub. They also can boost customer loyalty because there are more flights, more convenient flight times and better connections to overseas destinations through an airline's own flights and links to overseas partners. Airlines with the most scope and scale retain and win more corporate accounts, normally a big source of the highest-yielding frequent business travelers.
