Most expensive and least expensive rentals in L.A.

This tells you a lot about income divisions in Los Angeles. Most expensive is a 5-bedroom, 51/2 bathroom 5,900 square-foot property in Malibu that's going for $30,000 a month. From property description via apartmenthunterz:

Luxurious master suite with large ocean view balcony, fireplace, bathroom with double vanities and walk-in closet with built-ins. Three additional bedroom suites, spacious living areas including a large formal living room with fireplace, formal dining room, large open kitchen and great room with additional dining area and office. Incredible cook's kitchen with Viking appliances, large center island, custom cabintry and butler's pantry. This home offers ocean views, beautiful furnishings, a detached 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom guest house, ocean view pool and spa with fountain feature, flat grassy yard, covered verandas with outdoor heaters and BBQ area.

Least expensive is a 400-square-foot studio apartment in the 90015 ZIP code near downtown. It goes for $475 a month. Here's that description:

AVAILABLE NOW! Se habla Espanol. Great housing option for those on a budget! ALL utilities included with rent. New, carpets, paint and blinds. Easy freeway access. Only a few short blocks to the USC campus. VERY clean. Features: Refrigerator, Oven / range, Heat - gas, Laundry room.

Putting aside those extremes, the average price for a 2-bedroom apartment in the L.A. area is $2,068 a month, according to ApartmentHunterz.com.
