What a surprise, right? His slot on Current TV will be filled with a program hosted by Eliot Spitzer. Politico has the memo from Al Gore & Joel Hyatt, the network's founders:
Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it. We are moving ahead by honoring Current's values. Current has a fundamental obligation to deliver news programming with a progressive perspective that our viewers can count on being available daily -- especially now, during the presidential election campaign.
From the NYT:
The decision to dismiss Mr. Olbermann was unanimous among the senior managers of Current, according to a person familiar with the matter. It came after months of infighting between the famously temperamental Mr. Olbermann and his bosses at Current, including David Bohrman, the channel's president, and Joel Hyatt, its chief executive. The fighting spilled out into public view last January after Mr. Olbermann declined Current's requests to host special hours of election coverage, apparently out of frustration about technical difficulties that had plagued his 8 p.m. program, "Countdown."
*In case anyone cares at point, Olbermann says he plans to sue, though it's worth noting that in January and February he missed 19 out of 41 working days. It's always somebody else's fault.
