Feature production was up 5.7 percent (in part due to the state's tax incentive program), TV was down 2.7 percent, and commercials were up 4.4 percent. All told, according to Film LA Inc, there were 45,484 permitted production days in 2011, up from 43,646 a year earlier. Television saw a 10.6 percent drop in the fourth quarter, which has the FilmLA people in a tizzy (as usual) because 10 TV dramas are shooting in other states (apparently thanks to incentive programs). Of course, keep in mind that these numbers only cover on-location shooting. It does not include local soundstage activity - of which there is a bunch. Exactly how much we don't know because those numbers are never released.
