After many months of speculation, company officials confirmed that the magazine will be relocating from its Chicago headquarters. No word yet on the company's corporate operations, but it sounds as if they might move that, as well. From the Chicago Tribune:
The move has been the subject of much speculation since March, when octogenarian founder Hugh Hefner bought back Playboy Enterprises, the company he founded in his Chicago apartment in 1953. Hefner moved to Los Angeles in 1975. Scott Flanders, who has been Playboy Enterprises' CEO since 2009 also lives in Southern California, while editor Jimmy Jellinek moved to Los Angeles in August.
Playboy has had photo studios in the L.A. area for years.
From Crain's Chicago Business:
The company's biggest business by headcount and revenue, its television production unit, is based in Los Angeles, as is its founder, Chief Creative Officer Hugh Hefner, who took the company private earlier this year. As of late August, the biggest employee group, 216 workers, was in Los Angeles, and 177 editorial, digital, human resources and accounting employees were left at the local office, at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive.
