Subway lines to run more frequently at night

The Red, Purple and Blue lines, which currently run every 20 minutes later in the evening, will be available every 10 minutes, beginning this Sunday. It's a pilot project that will use shorter trains. From blogdowntown:

The new service won't do much for riders who would like to use Metro to get back from a night on the town. The last trains on the three lines currently leave between midnight and 1am. An expansion of those service hours is something that Metro will consider as part of budgeting process for its next fiscal year, which starts in July of 2012.

Last train at 1 a.m.? For hipsters, that's the shank of the evening. The program will last through next June, at which point it will be re-evaluated.
