Big day - the Dow was up 267 points, to 11,808, a 2.3 percent gain. Another batch of strong earnings no doubt helped - McDonald's, in particular, had a strong quarter - and there were encouraging rumbles about European leaders carving out some sort of debt deal. That's based more on hope than actual news, but for this session it was enough.
