That's not in California, it's nationwide. New Gallup poll has 50 percent in favor of legalization, up from 46 percent last year. When the pollster first asked the question in 1969, just 12 percent favored legalization. A survey last year found that seven out of 10 Americans were fine with legalizing pot for medicinal purposes. That's supposedly the way it is in California, though federal drug laws - as well as local regulations - are making it harder to grow and distribute marijuana these days. From press release:
Support for legalizing marijuana is directly and inversely proportional to age, ranging from 62% approval among those 18 to 29 down to 31% among those 65 and older. Liberals are twice as likely as conservatives to favor legalizing marijuana. And Democrats and independents are more likely to be in favor than are Republicans. More men than women support legalizing the drug. Those in the West and Midwest are more likely to favor it than those in the South.
