'Playboy Club' gets the ax

Boy, that was fast. NBC canceled the 1960s period piece drama, which drew only 3.5 million people in its third episode. In its place, beginning on Oct. 31, will be the Brian Williams newsmagazine "Rock Center" (what a name!). The news show is gathering a star-studded cast, including Harry Smith, Kate Snow, and Meredith Vieira. From Entertainment Weekly:

The move is no surprise and, indeed, was expected months before the show premiered. The industry had low expectations for the 1960s set drama, which attempted to replicate a retro Mad Men vibe but for a wide audience and on a network with plenty of content restrictions.
