September's unemployment rate was 11.9 percent, down from 12.1 percent a month earlier and 12 percent in July. The separate payroll report shows a small gain of 11,800 jobs in September, with construction hiring up a little and manufacturing down a little. Overall, little change in the state employment picture. We'll have more later (BLS)
