Not a big surprise considering that the county's overall jobless rate is so much higher than the U.S. overall, and yet it's instructive to see how various categories break down. The unemployment rate for folks under 25 is especially high. But the real killer is in the 45-54 bracket, where the L.A. unemployment rate is 11.2 percent and the U.S. rate is only 7.1 percent. And keep in mind these number cover unemployment rates; the numbers for underemployed workers (someone who has a job, but not in a desired field or at an appropriate salary) is much higher. Figures are tabulated by the Economic Roundtable, and they're for August.
