Weak job numbers for California, L.A.

The state unemployment rate rose to 12.1 percent in August, up from 12.0 percent the previous month, while the separate payroll report showed a loss of 8,500 jobs. California continues to have the second-highest jobless rate after Nevada. L.A.'s unemployment rate was 12.5 percent, up from 12.3 percent the month before, and 5,400 10,300 payroll jobs were lost. Not all that surprising given the lackluster national figures reported a couple of weeks ago. I'll have more later. Here's the BLS release.
