Kaiser nurses on strike

The walkout, expected to last two or three days, involves 2,500 unionized nurses in Southern California - and their beefs included higher health care costs and inadequate staffing levels. By Thursday, another 19,000 workers could walk off their jobs statewide, which could make it the nation's largest-ever nurses strike. From the LAT:

In Los Angeles, most of the strikers planned to picket Wednesday until early afternoon outside Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center at Sunset Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in Hollywood. Others were protesting at Kaiser sites in Fontana and San Diego. A representative for Kaiser was not immediately available early Wednesday.

From the Daily Breeze:

The biggest impact is expected to be felt at the Kaiser Hollywood facility, where nurses will strike today through Friday. Therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, health educators, dieticians and speech therapists will walk off the job at all other Southern California facilities, including Harbor City, today and tomorrow only. Kaiser officials say services for patients will not be affected. All departments will remain open, and patients can continue to make appointments, officials said in a statement to patients.
