The problem with this list - as with most lists of movers and shakers - is that it celebrates the tired notion that a select group rules the roost. In an online world - the very world some of these folks are responsible for creating - the reality is that power and influence are deeply fractionalized. You could easily have a list of a thousand or ten thousand people who in various ways can exert significant sway, depending on day and topic. Frankly, the list better reflects the people who got us here rather than the ones who are running day-to-day operations. And no offense to the staffers who assembled this thing, but does anyone need to be reminded that Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and the three dudes from Google are really big, rich cheeses? All right, if you must know:
--MARK ZUCKERBERG (Facebook)
--STEVE JOBS (Apple)
--SERGEY BRIN, LARRY PAGE, and ERIC SCHMIDT (Google)
--RUPERT MURDOCH (News Corp)
--JEFF BEZOS (Amazon)
--BERNARD ARNAULT (LVMH)
--MICHAEL BLOOMBERG (NY mayor)
--LARRY ELLISON (Oracle)
--EVAN WILLIAMS and BIZ STONE (Twitter)
--JOHN MALONE (Liberty Media)
--WARREN BUFFETT (Berkshire Hathaway)
--BRAD BIRD, PETE DOCTER, JOHN LASSETER, and ANDREW STANTON (Pixar)
--JEFF BEWKES (Time Warner)
--BOB IGER (Disney)
--LARRY FINK (Blackrock)
--RALPH LAUREN (Polo Ralph Lauren)
--FRANÇOIS-HENRI PINAULT (PPR)
