In a complaint filed with the Labor Department, Craig Simmons says that his former boss, Bruce Dow, told him to mislead investigators about the alleged activity, which involved the union's pension and health plans and, according to the complaint, resulted in losses of $5 million to $10 million. When Simmons refused to do so, he was let go by Dow, who is the plans' CEO. At the center of the embezzlement allegations is former chief information officer Nader Karimi, whose attorney denies that she was involved in wrongdoing. From The Wrap, which broke the story:
Simmons says the financial misdeeds weren't limited to embezzlement. He accuses Dow of raiding the benefits plan to lavish money on family members and pay for his wife's breast enhancement surgery. Simmons, who is gay, claims Dow oversaw a frathouse-like work environment where sexual harassment and homophobia were commonplace. In his nine-page letter to trustees and in his labor department complaint, Simmons claims that Dow and his lieutenants engaged in everything from insider trading to outright thievery.
