The Seattle-based chain is also throwing in free shipping for all returned merchandise. It's an interesting move within the online retail world, where the cost of shipping remains a significant constraint to customer traffic. Previously, Nordstrom had free shipping for online purchases of $200 or more; at Amazon, the minimum purchase is $25. Free shipping isn't cheap, of course, which raises the question of where these extra dollars will come from: the retailer, in the form of lower profits, or the customer, in the form of higher prices.
