Indexes are inching closer to three-year highs, with the Dow finishing up 152 points - an extraordinary decoupling from the overall jobless recovery. Helping encourage stock performance are second-quarter earnings (Microsoft is just out with strong results) that reflect more efficient production, as well as global sales. But that new way of doing business has not spurred hiring - and in a nutshell, that's the problem.
