California lost 29,200 jobs in May, the largest number of any state and another reminder of how sluggish the recovery has been. The previous month the state added just 8,900 jobs. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 11.7 percent from 11.9 percent the month before. California has the nation's second-highest rate; Nevada is first, at 12.1 percent. Here's the BLS release.
