The carrier is making $271 million worth of improvements that include additional gates and a baggage screening system that will accommodate domestic and international flights (Alaska Airlines has a number of flights to Mexico and Canada). The renovations, which are expected to be completed by early next year, are part of a legal settlement over terminal charges. As part of the deal, Alaska gets the preferred Terminal 6 location (it currently flies out of Terminals 2 and 3) and eight other carriers operating out of Terminal 6 will be relocated to other areas.
