Maybe it's wishful thinking or maybe something more, but Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said that the June 7 election date is still possible (but June 14 is more likely). That, of course, assumes there are enough votes in the legislature to place the tax extension measure on a ballot - quite an assumption since Gov. Jerry Brown hasn't picked up any Republican supporters. From Capitol Alert:
Steinberg hinted at alternatives should Republicans balk at the tax election, though he declined to specify what those were. Some Republicans last week urged Democrats to place taxes on the ballot with a majority vote rather than ask for GOP help. "The people ought to have the chance to decide whether or not they want those cuts to double or be even more serious," Steinberg said. "It's up to the Republicans to provide the minimal number of votes to do that. We expect that they will with some reasonable terms. If they don't, then we will do everything we can to try to protect public investment and get this job done.
