The recent run-up in oil prices certainly hasn't helped matters, although gas has been steadily on the upswing since last fall. An average gallon of regular in the L.A. area is $3.574, according to the government's newly-released survey, up 12 cents from just last week. Prices remain about a buck-a-gallon lower than they were at their height in 2008, but as you can see from the chart, they're moving up pretty quickly (about 60 cents higher since last October). The good news is that oil prices fell a bit today; the bad news is that we're approaching the summer driving season, when gas prices typically take off.
