They'll be running during rush hour between MacArthur Park and Centinela Avenue, with a mile-long gap in the Westwood area (homeowners are worried that the lanes will add to congestion) and additional gaps in Beverly Hills. The project costs a mere $31.5 million, chump change compared with the proposed subway, and while I wouldn't begin to guess its impact on Wilshire Boulevard traffic, it's the kind of incremental, low-risk idea that the MTA should really be focused on. Another good move is the construction of Wilshire flyover ramps from the 405 that Kevin wrote about this morning, Not terribly sexy, I realize, but potentially effective.
