Torrance Kmart to close after 40 years

The 90,000-square-foot store on Hawthorne Boulevard lost its sweetheart lease, and the chain wasn't interested in paying market prices, reports the Breeze (via Curbed L.A.). Kmart isn't talking. The leasing agent says he doesn't expect any problem filling the space when the store closes next year.

Long-time shoppers at the store expressed dismay it would shutter. "We've been shopping here since I was knee-high," said Lawndale resident Alicia Fitzgerald, 55, as she scratched off lottery tickets outside the store Friday morning. "My mom shopped here forever," she added. "If it was to close, a lot of people would be kind of down."
