Chapman University's consumer confidence index is at its highest point since August 2007, before the recession began. Consumer sentiment about the future is also up, as is the inclination to buy big-ticket items. From the OC Register:
"Basically what is happening is that at the beginning of a recovery you get mixed signals," Adibi said. "Now there is more confidence that the recovery is gaining traction." Adibi believes the economy will continue to improve and that more jobs -- and confidence -- should follow.
The economy is slowly improving, but readings like this are more reflective of an attitudinal adjustment that's been gaining steam the last two or three months - and most likely will continue into 2011.
