A paltry 7 percent of shoppers surveyed by Kelley Blue Book say they're likely to consider an electric vehicle when making their next car purchase. A large majority of respondents - 87 percent - say they worry about how far they'll be able to drive on a single charge, and 84 percent say they worry about the availability of charging stations. There also are concerns about price and retaining value. This can't be great news for GM, which has been counting on the new Chevy Volt as a big part of its revival. But neither is it surprising. It's been assumed that consumer acceptance of electric vehicles would be a long, hard slog, especially if gas prices remain stable. But once electric cars become more of a presence on city streets, interest should pick up. The question is how much. Here's the Kelley release.
