It always happens - an economist or stock analyst who seemed prescient in making one forecast eventually falls flat on another. So is the case with economist Nouriel Roubini, who had made quite a name for himself by being one of the early predictors of the recession. Since then, his words have taken on great weight in the media - as in, "Nouriel Roubini, the NYU economist who correctly predicted an economic collapse, said today that...." Well, on Aug. 25, Roubini said third-quarter GDP growth would "very likely to be below 1%; and likely to be closer to 0%." That turned out to be way off - the GDP was revised at 2 percent (not great growth, mind you, but at least better than expected). Business Insider's Joe Weisenthal called him on it earlier today, and that led Roubini to tweet that Weisenthal was an "idiot." The esteemed professor then sent out an "off the record" tweet by mistake that said of Weisenthal: "He is a loser and like all parasite losers he hopes for attention and traffic." Seems a tad defensive, no? Just so you know, Roubini now expects the roof to cave in during the fourth quarter. We'll be watching.
