Let there be no doubt that unemployment in California remains extremely high. But a Labor Department report out this morning finds that for a bunch of cities the jobless rate actually fell in August from July. That includes El Centro, the perennial disaster area for employment, which dropped to 30.4 percent from 32.1 percent the previous month. Not much of a decline, but I'm just saying... Some other California metro areas:
Bakersfield-Delano -- 15.3 percent, down from 15.9 percent
Fresno -- 15.4 percent, down from 16.1 percent
Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana -- 12.1 percent, down from 12.4 percent
Modesto -- 16.4 percent, down from 17.5 percent
Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura -- 11.2 percent, down from 11.3 percent
Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario -- 14.8 percent, down from 15.1 percent
San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos -- 10.6 percent, down from 10.9 percent
San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont -- 10.6 percent, down from 10.7 percent
San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara -- 11.2 percent, down from 11.5 percent
