California was stuck at 12.3 percent unemployment rate in July, unchanged from the previous month. That's the third-highest jobless rate in the nation (Nevada and Michigan are one and two). The separate payroll survey shows a loss of 9,400 jobs in the state. North Carolina, New Jersey and Illinois had bigger losses, but several states saw substantial gains. L.A. numbers should be out later this morning. Here's the BLS press release
