Traffic gains at LAX

The overall June passenger count was up almost 4 percent from a year earlier, but the domestic side only saw a 1.4 percent increase - and keep in mind that last year was nearly a wash-out because of the recession. It's international travel that continues to make strong percentage gains, jumping 11.6 percent from June 2009. Air cargo had a good month, up 19.2 percent. From the release:

"Since late last year we have seen a slow increase in passenger volume due to some improvement in the economy further assisted by added service on existing routes from several of the domestic and international airlines, and the introduction of new flights in June by Alitalia to Rome," said Gina Marie Lindsey, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports that owns and operates LAX.
