The downtown sports/entertainment district was honored by the Los Angeles Business Council at its 40th Annual Architectural Awards. From the press release:
Presenters described it as a unique model of successful collaboration between business and government to revitalize downtown Los Angeles. "LA Live demonstrates how meaningful civic partnership, innovative architecture and smart planning can transform neighborhoods and spur economic growth, while advancing our City's sustainability goals," said Mary Leslie, President of the Los Angeles Business Council.
Not everyone agrees with that characterization, of course, especially the part about transforming neighborhoods. But there's no question that LA Live has definitely made an impact on certain kinds of events. LA Live's architects were Barry Design Associates, ELS Architecture and Urban Design, Gensler and RTKL Associates. Contractors were Clark Construction, PCL Construction Services, and Webcor Builders.
Also recognized was the the new LAPD Administration Building. Architects were AECOM in a joint venture with Roth Sheppard Associates. Contractor was Tutor-Saliba.
