This time it comes from CA respondents to a Field Poll. In dealing with the state deficit, half of the registered voters want to close the $20 billion deficit either entirely or mostly through spending cuts. Passing the budget with simple majority votes of the Assembly and Senate instead of the current two-thirds requirement got support from 43 percent, while 47 percent were opposed. And 75 percent believe that California can deal with its problems without making fundamental changes to the state constitution - so long as lawmakers are more willing to compromise and work together.
