As expected the DirectTV CEO gets the nod as deputy chairman, president and COO of News Corp., becoming the No. 2 to Rupert Murdoch. He'll have more titles than Peter Chernin had when he was Murdoch's lieutenant. Chernin resigned from his post earlier this year. With Carey having more than a year remaining on his contract at DirecTV, Murdoch might have had to do a deal with Chairman John Malone, whose company, Liberty Media, controls 48 percent of the El Segundo-based satellite TV service.
