The $111,000 television

Timing seems a little off considering the premium being placed on frugality these days, but if you so choose Bang & Olufsen, the Danish maker of pricey, high-styled electronic gear, has come out with a 103-inch plasma TV. The $111,000 price tag includes a $15,000 TV stand - and yes, that does seem like a lot of money, but this is a very special stand. It has pneumatic risers that lift the display about three feet to a better viewing height. The price also includes setup and installation (the thing weighs 1,200 pounds. From the NYT's Gadegetwise:

Don't bother rushing down to your local Bang & Olufsen store to see it, because it won't be there. Each unit is built to order in Denmark, with the first one being installed next month. Being Bang & Olufsen, the company's press preview, which was appropriately held in an Aston Martin showroom in Beverly Hills, emphasized form more than function.

The set is being introduced this month in L.A., NY and Chicago. BTW, Panasonic also has a 103-inch set that is a steal at only $50,000.
