Layoffs at Trib

The one-time World's Greatest Newspaper has handed out pink slips to several folks in the Washington bureau, including John Crewdson, Bay Fang, Stephen Hedges, and Aamer Madhani. That's on top of the eight LAT staffers who recently lost their jobs, part of a crushing consolidation of Tribune Co.'s various Washington bureaus. The Trib's acting bureau chief, Naftali Bendavid, quit the other day to join the WSJ. (All these numbers and names are from the Chicago Reader.)

In other layoff reports, the NY Observer hears that around 15 editorial staffers at Entertainment Weekly got canned today, with perhaps more cuts coming. The layoffs are at both the magazine and ew.com. A couple of weeks back, Time Inc. announced restructuring plans that will involve up to 700 jobs cuts. EW was seen as especially vulnerable.
