This is the latest in a series of demonstrations over Tuesday's passage of Proposition 8, the initiative that bans same-sex marriage. Looks like portions of Santa Monica, Wilshire and Westwood boulevards have been closed to traffic, which is causing a nightmarish commute. From the LAT:
Soon after the rally got under way at 2 p.m., men and woman hoisting signs shouted down about a half-dozen men in suits from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yelling "Shame on you!" and pointing at them. The men in suits and a groundskeeper stood looking at them impassively.
*Based on media reports, demonstration appears ill-formed, with marchers going from Santa Monica to Westwood and then east on Wilshire. They're now moving onto Manning, apparently heading back to the Mormon Temple. I can only imagine what commuters are thinking as they crawl home. This is a really dumb move. Here's the link to KNX and an LAT video feed.
**Most protesters are heading eastbound on Wilshire. At last check, they were approaching Los Angeles Country Club, so they're fast approaching Bev Hills. What a mess.
