No one's in charge

Jon Stewart does a very funny bit on the economy and how no one seems to be in charge, especially on Tuesday, when much of Congress left town for Rosh Hashanah. Here's the link (courtesy of Silicon Alley Insider) and here's a snippet from Tuesday’s show:

Listen up, Congress, get the (bleep) back to work. For the Jewish Holidays? For God sake, how many Jews are even in Congress? Wall Street's open - I guarantee you they have more Jews on Wall Street than in Congress. I'm here – “The Daily Show” is on, I guarantee you we have more Jews on “The Daily Show” than in Congress. So get back to saving the economy. And if you have to do it without Feingold and Lieberman, so be it. Hey, how about this: The Congressional delegations from Florida and New York can sleep in. How about that?

Isn't there some Talmudic loophole that allows really important people to stay on the job when really important stuff comes up, like, er, the future of the country? By the way, the latest CBS News/NYT poll has Bush's approval rating at 22 percent. That matches Harry Truman’s Gallup approval rating in 1952, when the country was mired in Korea and facing a stagnant economy. In the same poll, out this afternoon, Obama is up 9 points over McCain.
