That's the estimated 5-day box office take for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," an impressive but not record-breaking performance. The holiday weekend record still belongs to "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which grossed $153 million last year. (The best 5-day opening ever was "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith," at almost $173 million.) The Indy numbers will go through the usual round of Jewish-mother-type second-guessing - as in, so why didn't it do better? Well, mom, demographics skewed older, it's a sluggish movie season, and ticket prices have increased. Besides, the results fall within the range of many estimates. (WSJ, DHD)
