The special committee that's supposed to oversee the paper's editorial independence is meeting this morning – just ahead of the formal resignation of managing editor Marcus Brauchli. The committee, which Rupert Murdoch agreed to as part of News Corp's purchase of Dow Jones, is supposed to approve hiring of a new managing editor. There's still a lot of confusion over the circumstances behind Brauchli's departure, though it's clear that Murdoch has been on a tear to beef up the paper with more general interest news. (WSJ)
