I'm kidding. As Nikki Finke posted this morning, the president and CEO of NBC Universal taped a promo that's supposed to run before the April 3rd return of "My Name is Earl." The idea is to recap the previous episodes, but the script winds up taking snipes at the Writers Guild and the terms of the new contract. Most obvious is Zucker’s reference to the shows being available on NBC.com, "preferably within the first 17 days." The new contract provides a 17-day window during which studios can stream content without paying royalties. Zucker supposedly did the bit at the request Earl's creator, Greg Garcia. "The writers wrote the whole thing," Garcia told Finke. "I asked Jeff if he would do it, and he was cool enough to say yes. I loved the way it turned out, and I think it's fucking hilarious." I know I’m laughing.
