American cancels L.A. flights

About a dozen flights have been impacted today, most of them out of LAX. All told, the airline canceled 300 flights to re-inspect bundled wires on MD-80 aircraft. They're supposed to be secured at intervals of exactly one inch, but inspectors found some of them exceeding that space. All this comes after the embarrassing maintenance lapses at Southwest - lapses that have put the screws on the other carriers. Delta said it will ground 133 aircraft in order to re-inspect wiring on the carrier's MD-88 and MD-90 airplanes. (LAT, WSJ)
